All animals produce antibodies against the immunogen/antigen. If the immunogen is a synthetic peptide, designed and produced by us, we will actually guarantee that the immune sample contains antibodies that react with the peptide. Due to this fact many projects use a single animal.
There are however always individual differences in the animals, and they will respond differently to the immunogen that is presented to them. Usually the resulting antibodies are usable regardless of animal, although one may be better then the other. But there are also cases where the difference is striking and one animal produces antibodies that do not work with the intended application while the second produces excellent antibodies.
In general the likelihood for success increases with the number of animals that are immunised, and it is recommended that two or three animals are used.
